Board of Estimate & Taxation (BET)

The BET controls the Town and Board of Education spending, sets fiscal policy, prepares the annual budget and determines each year’s tax mill rate (your personal property taxes).  The BET is made up of 6 Republicans and 6 Democrats. Each slate of 6 is chosen (endorsed) by their respective party Town Committees. This year Republican Karen Fassuliotis is running as an Independent.  The party receiving the most votes in the election can choose the powerful Chair who holds the tie-breaking vote.
