The year is barely half over and Greenwich police have charged 46 suspects in 22 cases of retail crime. That number is about equal to totals for the full year of 2022. That is a big jump in organized theft in Greenwich.
The Greenwich Time has some interesting explanations:
Greenwich is close to I-95 used as a quick getaway
We have many high end retail stores
Police are getting better at catching thieves
Thieves are smarter now - they travel in groups, distract employees, act as look outs, use bodies to obstruct, put merchandise in foil-lined bag to thwart electronic detection
Merchandise is easier to re-sell through on-line auctions, turning up at flea markets
Some other explanations not on this list may be that judges are too easy on crimminals, that there is more stress in the economy and that we have a large influx of unvetted immigrants.
