Two of seven members of the Town of Greenwich Board of Health will come before the RTM (Representative Town Meeting) on Monday to renew their four year terms. Sarah Gamble, a doctor of internal medicine, and Lauren O'Keefe, an advanced practice registered nurse. Both are Republicans, both volunteers.
Why? They were skeptical of the ban on gas powered leaf blowers, preferring an educational program. As reported in the Greenwich Free Press, when Sarah Gamble was told that the use of gas powered leaf blowers is an immediate health hazard and needed to be banned for summer months, the doctor said "we do not recognize a health hazard on a part time basis". Ms. O'Keefe said that "the studies were not scientific enough." Bottom line, the Board of Health dissolved the noise ordinance as part of its mandate.
Quiet Yards and those who support the gas leaf blower ban are encouraging RTM members to vote against renewing the terms of these two members. You can email all 230 RTM members with your comments using this form here.
