The original plan to charge a $15 toll to drive into mid-town Manhattan was dropped last June. The plan is now back on the table, but instead of $15, it is now $9. NY Governor Kathy Hochul says this is a "savings" of $1,500 dollars a year, or 40% (of what could have been). She makes this announcement about the "savings" with a straight face here.
3,100 Connecticut drivers travel to mid-town Manhattan every workday.
Between the lines: While the NJ Governor Phil Murphy is suing the MTA over this toll plan. CT Governor Ned Lamont believes this is not a bad idea if it encourages more people to take the train.
