Five Greenwich Restaurants Flagged in Spring Inspections

If you dined out in central Greenwich this spring, you might want to know what local health inspectors turned up. Between April and June 2026, the Greenwich Health Department conducted over 100 routine inspections—and five local spots were cited for multiple "priority item" violations, the most critical category under Connecticut state rules.

The violations ranged from improper food holding temperatures to storing food items too close to cleaning chemicals. The good news? Nearly every issue was corrected on the spot or within hours.

  • Glory Days Diner (69 E. Putnam Ave.) — Manager Ted Triantafillou noted the results were "a massive anomaly" for the family-run diner, which has operated in town for over 40 years, adding that every issue was resolved within 24 hours.

  • Happy Monkey (376 Greenwich Ave.) — Management did not provide a comment.

  • Asiana Cafe (68 E. Putnam Ave.) — Management did not provide a comment.

  • CFCF (118 Greenwich Ave.) — Manager Kalina Katz confirmed everything was fixed immediately.

  • Le Penguin (61 Lewis St.) — Co-owner Anshu Vidyarthi explained that a plumber was already en route for a hot water issue when the inspector arrived, and a minor refrigerator malfunction caused the temperature variance that day. "I run a tight ship. I have a reputation to uphold," Vidyarthi said.

Why it Matters

Connecticut law mandates that cold foods stay at 41∘F or below, hot foods stay at 135∘F or above, and all priority violations be resolved within 72 hours. Interestingly, this Q2 report mirrors Q1 2026, when five entirely different local spots were flagged.

Between the Lines: While seeing local favorites on a violation list can be jarring, it’s ultimately a sign of a healthy system: local inspectors are actively keeping Greenwich diners safe, and restaurant owners are moving fast to maintain their standards.
