According to a report by the Greenwich Time, town health inspectors conducted more than 100 inspections during the first quarter of 2026. While several local establishments were cited for "priority item" violations—the most serious category involving food temperatures and sanitation—the report notes that most infractions were corrected on the spot.
The following restaurants were included in the Greenwich Time summary:
Yama Tsuki Sushi (18 W. Putnam Ave.): Inspectors noted six priority violations, such as eggs stored over bok choy and food products kept near a cleaning agent. The report also mentioned rice left out overnight and the presence of an unlabeled chemical cleaner in the kitchen.
Kira Sushi (4 Lewis Court): This establishment was cited for three priority items, including raw beef stored over ready-to-eat food and glass cleaner stored near lettuce in the sushi prep area. An inspector also recorded restroom water temperatures reaching 151 degrees, which exceeded the safe 120-degree limit.
George Italian Steakhouse (2 S. Water St.): The inspection identified three priority violations involving improper storage of insecticide and food held at unsafe temperatures. Specifically, cheese sauce and vegetables were measured at 64 degrees, while bacon was recorded at 56 degrees.
El Mariachi Deli (41 N. Water St.): A single priority violation was issued here after chicken and vegetables on a prep line were measured at 48 degrees, which is above the required 41-degree threshold for cold storage.
India Avenue (248 Railroad Ave.): This location received one priority citation for chicken, rice, and beans stored in a walk-in cooler at 47 degrees. The inspector also noted an improper thawing method for frozen food and a lack of proper date marking on prepared items.
Between the Lines:
Chances are, having addressed these specific citations immediately, these restaurants are now operating with even tighter safety protocols than before.
