A power grab by Greenwich Democrats who took control of the Board of Education (BOE) on October 21 by filling a Republican seat with their favored candidate has devolved into litigation and name calling.
At a special Selectmen meeting Tuesday night, the two Republicans of the three Selectmen voted to issue a temporary restraining order to halt the BOE from taking further action until the vacancy issue is resolved.
Democrat Selectperson Janet Stone McGuigen voted against a legal battle for the purpose of "installing a preferred candidate". Camillo retorted that it was the Democrats who "picked the fight" by initiating litigation against the Town in a power grab to install their preferred candidate.
In statements following the meeting, Democrat Selectperson McGuigen alleged that her Republican colleagues are sowing "confusion and distrust". Acting Democrat BOE Chair Karen Hirsh, threw insults at the Republican First Selectman, Fred Camillo, saying "we are the Board of Ed, not the Board of Fred."
Camillo called the illegal operation of the BOE, the "mother of all power grabs."
Here is a video replay of the meeting.
Between the lines: In our "bipartisan" Greenwich, let's carve the turkey, not each other, this Thanksgiving.
