Each year Americans make choices about where to live, and those choices have powerful implications for the economic and political landscape of every state. You can now visualize the data using this interactive map covering the ten year period from 2012 to 2022 (map here).

Winners and losers: States with high income taxes are losing people and money to states with no income tax. States with no income tax gained $200 billion in net income. No wonder they don't need an income tax.

Connecticut ranked 10th in net domestic out migration with a loss of -117,465 people (see list here) who took $12.6 billion of income with them (see list here)

You can use this interactive map to see the population flow between states. For example, if you put in the State of Connecticut and Florida, you will see that CT saw a net outflow of -83,022 of people who moved to Florida taking $12 billion of income with them.

A net of -16,977 people left CT for Texas, taking $1.2 billion

The only good news: the state of New York is worse than Connecticut. CT gained +118,070 people from New York who brought $11 billion of income with them

Between the Lines: Until 1991, Connecticut had no income tax at all. We prospered then, why not now.
