Some complained the vigil shouldn't have happened at Greenwich Town Hall, others said Kirk was a gun rights supporter and got his due and others said a vigil should not be held for a racist. Nevertheless, 200 Greenwich residents thought differently. They turned out on Thursday evening holding candles disturbed by the assassination of 31-year old Charlie Kirk on Wednesday September 10 in broad daylight at a 3,000 person college gathering at Utah Valley University.
First Selectman Camillo responded to the social media of those who thought the shooting may have been justified, "If you think it is okay to post and insinuate that the murder of a 31 year old was an act of karma because of a position on the Second Amendment, whatever your views on it, then you need to reevaluate your life and what brought you to such a dark place. May God bless Charlie Kirk, and may He bless his young family. People of all beliefs and backgrounds can agree that senseless violence is never an answer, nor should be tolerated."
Charlie Kirk founded Turning Point Action when he was 18 years old with the intent of bringing civilized debate and free speech back to college campuses. He conducted open debates inviting those who disagreed with him to come to the front of the line. He made a difference in registering young voters to support Trump.
Between the Lines: Now is the time to honor Charlie Kirk by making his senseless death a turning point toward tolerance and civilized discussion.
