Vexatious, Are You?

At last week's Board of Selectmen meeting, First Selectman Camillo warned of legislative initiatives coming from Hartford that threaten local control over zoning in Greenwich. For example, a bill has been proposed to permit 5-story buildings and 5-foot setbacks as a right—completely bypassing Planning & Zoning approval.

However, there is one piece of legislation Camillo actually agrees with: the proposed Vexatious Requester Law (SB 466). He revealed that the town has been "vexed" by extensive FOIA requests that have cost Greenwich hundreds of thousands of dollars. Camillo noted that certain individuals force department heads to spend entire days in Hartford for hearings, stalling town operations. If a requester is deemed "Vexatious" under the new bill, the town could earn the right to ignore them for up to three years.

Between the Lines: Don't vex the town with a voluminous variety of document demands; otherwise you will be considered a vexatious violator
