In the Selectmen's newsletter this week, we are reminded of our need to comply with the new restrictions on gas-powered leaf blowers. The ban on gas-powered leaf blowers starts on Friday May 24 at 6 pm until Monday September 30 (except for 2 acre properties when it ends on Labor Day, Sep 2). Fines will not be imposed this year but starting in 2025, a fine of $100 will be imposed for the first offense and $249 thereafter.
But wait, the Town of Greenwich wants not one, not two, but a three-year phase-in to comply with the new restriction on gas-powered leaf blowers. Thursday, April 25 from 10-12 the Board of Selectmen held a public hearing, recorded here on GCTV YouTube to obtain input on a proposed variance that would give the Town until May 20, 2027 to transition to battery-operated leaf blowers in order to comply with the new leaf blower ordinance. The variance will only cover Town-owned properties, not private property.
