Henry J. White Jr., age 75, and his sister, Patricia A. White, age 69, have been held accountable for a decade-long scheme that defrauded 30 state treasuries throughout the U.S.

Between 2013 and 2022, the duo filed false claims for unclaimed property by posing as authorized representatives of various corporate entities. The scheme was remarkably successful for a time, netting them $1.2 million in fraudulent checks.

The logistics were bold. Henry White submitted signed certificates under penalty of perjury, and the state treasurers mailed the checks directly to the siblings' shared home in Old Greenwich. The prosecutors noted the stolen funds were funneled into personal expenses — most notably, the mortgage payments required to keep their residence on Havemeyer Lane.

On December 18, 2025, a federal judge sentenced Henry White to 37 months in prison and ordered him to pay $1.2 million in restitution. Patricia White who also pleaded guilty, awaits her sentencing on a later date.

Between the Lines: As local realtor and blogger Chris Fountain puts it here, "Another Old Greenwich house soon to be on the auction block". Oh the price some pay to afford the Greenwich dream.
