Thank you Governor Lamont for listening

Yesterday Governor Lamont (D) listened to residents by vetoing the affordable housing bill (HB 5002) that threatened to destroy small towns in CT. Thank you Governor for doing the right thing for thousands of residents and local officials who turned out in droves to complain about this takeover by the state of local zoning.

This housing bill was passed by the Democrat supermajority in Hartford. It would have enacted sweeping changes to local zoning and parking requirements in the name of making housing more affordable in CT. It would have required towns to zone for a fair share quota of affordable units and eliminate parking requirements for small apartment complexes.

The Governor also vetoed a bill passed by the Democrat supermajority that would provide unemployment pay for striking workers. If passed, this bill would have made businesses even less reluctant to come to CT.

Between the Lines: Citizens will need to keep the pressure on our State legislators who will likely continue these efforts in the Fall.
