A massive migration of top-tier entertainment and sports companies is transforming Stamford, CT. Once defined by finance and insurance, the city is repositioning itself as a sports and media hub.
Why Stamford? Many of these companies are leaving the high costs of New York City. They benefit from Connecticut's generous digital media and film production credits that cost around $60+ million annually in lost revenue to the State. They also receive lucrative property tax abatements from the city of Stamford.
These media firms are clustered in three areas around Stamford:
I.Downtown Stamford (Washington Boulevard & Atlantic Streets):
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). In 2023, WWE moved its 400,000 square foot headquarters to 677-707 Washington Boulevard, once the home of financial services giant UBS. An adjacent five-studio production facility of 30,000 square feet called The Studios at WWE was launched in 2024.
Major League Soccer (MLS). In January 2025, MLS relocated its Manhattan media and broadcast production division to The Studios at WWE.
NBCUniversal Stamford Studios. NBCUniversal has been operating a full-service Stamford Studios at 307 Atlantic Street since 2009. It also operates a digital production studio on Bank Street.
II.Stamford's East Side (Blachley Road near Chelsea Piers):
NBC Sports. NBC Sports moved its headquarters in 2013 to the East side of Stamford at 1 Blachley Road. It's the hub for events such as the Olympics.
NBA Studio Shows. NBA began airing programs including NBA Showtime and Basketball Night in America from an upgraded studio inside NBC Sports. This location handles 35% of the remote broadcasts for NBC's NBA games.
III.Stamford's South End (Canal & Harbor Drive):
The Village Campus. The Village campus is at 860 Canal Street. Tenants include content producers such as Wheelhouse and ITV America.
WorkPoint. WorkPoint at 290 Harbor Drive hosts production facilities used by CNBC, CNN and Fox News.
Between the Lines: While this job growth is great for the CT economy, including neighboring Greenwich, wouldn't it be nice if we didn't need taxpayer funded corporate welfare to get them here.
