Nine CT municipalities, including Stamford and Greenwich, have already submitted plans for speed camera rollouts. Most plans are targeting school zones. In Greenwich, ten school zones are targeted for Fall 2025 activation. Other municipal plans, such as New Haven, are also targeting red light enforcement.

Early next year CT DOT will submit a report recommending a plan for placing speed cameras on CT highways, including I-95. This followed a pilot program in work zones and some municipalities. The state legislature in Hartford must approve this plan before any speed cameras can be installed.

Between the Lines: Studies found that a single stationary camera targeting one location can reduce crashes by up to 54%. But the studies did not mention the revenue/fines and surveillance data collected from these cameras. Another slippery slope to more government intrusion?
