Greenwich boasts an incredible 32 miles of beautiful Long Island Sound coastline. Our local waters are a source of endless recreation, beauty, and community pride—but they also need our protection. If you love to paddle and want to do your part to preserve this vital natural resource, the upcoming SoundWaters Flotilla is the perfect way to get involved.

Now celebrating its milestone 10th year, the Flotilla has grown into Long Island Sound’s largest paddling event. Hundreds of kayakers and paddleboarders will take to the water on Saturday, July 11, 2026, for a fun, scenic 4-mile coastal paddle that culminates in a celebratory beach party.

Paddling for a Mission

The Flotilla is hosted by SoundWaters, a premier local non-profit dedicated to environmental education and stewardship. Their mission—to create a better world through joyful learning on Long Island Sound—reaches over 30,000 studentsevery year. Central to their mission is the Schooner SoundWaters, an iconic 80-foot three-masted schooner that serves as a floating classroom. By using the Sound and this historic vessel to teach students about marine biology and critical environmental impacts like microplastics, SoundWaters ensures a healthier ecosystem for years to come.

Fundraising for a Good Cause

This is a high-energy fundraising event where every dollar raised directly supports SoundWaters' educational and scholarship programs. Here is how you can join the movement:

  • Registration: Fees start at $50 if you bring your own single kayak or paddleboard, and $100 if you need to rent equipment (boat or board included).

  • The Goal: Participants commit to raising a modest $150 each. You can sign up as an individual or team up with a group of friends, family, or co-workers.

  • The Grand Prize: If you go above and beyond and raise $2,500, you will be awarded a private two-hour charter sail on the Schooner SoundWaters. With a 40-person capacity, it’s the ultimate reward and an incredible venue for family reunions, milestone parties, or corporate outings.

Between the Lines: As Greenwich residents, we are uniquely connected to the health of the Sound. Participating in the Flotilla isn't just about spending a great morning out on the water—it's a meaningful way to protect our own backyard. Click Here for Registration Details
