The latest emerging variant of Omnicron COVID-19, called NB.1.8.1 or Nimbus, causes a severe sore throat along with fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath and loss of taste/smell. About 11% of COVID-19 cases are now the Nimbus type.

While the new variant has been reported in 15 states, including the surrounding states of Rhode Island, New York, Vermont and Massachusetts, it hasn't yet been detected in CT, but is likely circulating here already.

The media has given it the terrifying nickname "Razor Throat" Covid.

Between the Lines: Calling a sore throat "razor throat" might be just what the pharmaceutical companies need to boost sales of the covid shot.
