Old Greenwich Village District Overlay makes progress

The Old Greenwich Village District Overlay proposal here was presented as a "discussion Item" at Planning & Zoning on Monday March 19. This overlay adds design guidelines to existing Zoning rules to prevent out-of-context development, such as the stripping of trees along Metro North in Old Greenwich or the.building of the imposing wall at the OG train station parking lot.

If successful, this would set an important precedent for Greenwich. Old Greenwich is one of 9 possible village districts (Banksville, Byram, Cos Cob, Chickahominy, Glenville, North Mianus, Pemberwick, Riverside) of Greenwich that could receive this designation. There are 26 other Towns in the State of CT with such designations and some, such as Norwalk, have multiple designations.

Next step is to get feedback from stakeholders and submit a Pre-Application.
