Offensive Comments by Employee at Greenwich Nursing Facility Go Viral

The Nathaniel Witherell—Greenwich’s town-owned and operated skilled nursing facility—announced this week that it has launched an internal investigation following a viral video showing one of its employees making aggressive, offensive remarks inside a local grocery store.

The incident occurred on June 2, 2026, at the customer service desk of the ShopRite supermarket on Hope Street in Stamford. The cell phone footage, captured by shopper Sarina Gupta, shows an argument that quickly escalated into a verbal tirade.

The employee, subsequently identified online as Stamford resident and Witherell Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Victoria Louise Mason, can be seen on video mocking Gupta. During the exchange, Mason tells Gupta to "go eat your bacon," hurls body-shaming insults, flashes her middle finger, and explicitly labels Gupta as "the swine in front of me," before telling her to go back to her country.

The Internet Steps In

The confrontation initially gained traction when Gupta posted the interaction to TikTok to crowdsource the woman’s identity. The situation exploded into a national viral event when popular social media personality and internet sleuth Danesh (known online as @ThatDaneshGuy) re-shared the video on his platforms with added commentary. By utilizing a visible phone number typed into the store's checkout keypad and matching it to public records, Danesh publicly identified Mason as the individual in the video.

In response to the mounting public backlash, the administration at The Nathaniel Witherell issued an official statement confirming the employee's tie to the facility and announcing immediate administrative action.

Witherell's Future

The timing of this scandal could not possibly be worse for the historic Parsonage Road facility. The Nathaniel Witherell has been under a microscopic lens by town officials and taxpayers for several years, plagued by a mix of declining federal performance ratings, staffing challenges, and persistent million-dollar operating deficits that require direct town bailouts.

For years, Greenwich has been locked in a fierce, unresolved political debate:

  • Town Safety Net: Proponents argue that a town-owned nursing facility provides a crucial, non-profit safety net for local seniors who cannot afford top-tier private care.

  • The Privatization Push: Fiscal conservatives argue that the town shouldn't be in the healthcare business and that the facility should be sold or leased to a private operator to save taxpayer money.

Between the Lines: A public relations nightmare of this magnitude—especially one centered on the conduct of frontline nursing staff—might just be the ultimate catalyst that forces Greenwich town leaders to finally make a definitive decision on the future of The Nathaniel Witherell.
