There is a growing concern about the unsafe operation of e-bikes in Greenwich. First Selectman Camillo said that he has heard from many worried residents seeing kids recklessly using e-bikes on sidewalks and without helmets on.
The Greenwich Fire Department, the Active Transportation Task Force and Bax Cycles have teamed up to offer an e-bike rider safety and skills session. It will be held on Monday August 25 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at the Greenwich Fire Station at 15 Havemeyer Place, Greenwich. Open to all e-bike and scooter riders.
In Connecticut, new legislation will go into effect on Oct. 1 that will increase the age from 16 to 18 requiring all children to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle, electric bike, skateboards, non-motorized or electric scooters and roller skates or blades. More restrictions on e-bikes are underway, including requiring registrations and licensing for use of certain high-powered e-bikes.
