A press conference was held last week, by CT Governor Ned Lamont (D) and various school superintendents to "quell concerns that school officials have observed amongst members of the state's undocumented immigrant community about immigration enforcement." Lamont said we are doing everything we can to make sure children are safe.

But there have been zero recorded incidents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents coming into Connecticut schools. Critics say that these "what if" scenarios being put forth by CT public officials were creating unnecessary anxieties among families. The Governor defended his public comments saying he wanted to get in front of any potential changes in ICE behavior - but he admitted that ICE hasn't conducted raids in any schools.

Between the Lines: Perhaps if Connecticut hadn't attracted such a large undocumented immigrant community with its sanctuary policies, we wouldn't need a press conference to "quell concerns" about a potential problem that shouldn't exist.
