New ordinance to combat feral cat problem in Old Greenwich

Updated: Sep 20

In response to the growing population of feral cats in Old Greenwich, a new ordinance is being drafted by the Town attorney that will be approved by the Board of Selectmen and then taken up by the RTM (Representative Town Meeting). Meeting recording here.

The draft ordinance requires people who take care of feral cats to register, vaccinate and sterilize them. A contentious section of the ordinance permits "mercifully killing" the cats.

Neighbors are concerned that while the ordinance is taking time to be crafted, the cat population is growing exponentially.

Between the lines: Did you notice the exponential growth of stories about cats these days?
