From Instagram:
Dear friends,
This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. But sometimes we can’t avoid the hard times. No matter how much we fight against them.
Mike’s Organic will be closing this weekend. As you can imagine, it’s a sad time.
This business has long been a dream of mine. A chance to unite the two things I love the most about life. Food and people. The dream started almost 15 years ago in my parents’ house with a Nissan pathfinder. A 29-year-old kid driving to farms every Monday to pick out the freshest eggs, crispiest lettuce, and juiciest tomatoes and then deliver them right to people’s homes.
Over the years the business grew to a warehouse in Stamford. Fed thousands of people and kept dozens of farms in business through COVID, and eventually expanded into a new store in Cos Cob.
We fought through adversity and challenges we never could have foreseen. Had successes and failures.
Several issues impeded our progress, including significantly higher-than-anticipated construction costs, inflation, food prices rising at the highest rate in decades, continued challenges in the retail industry, and more.
In the end we were not able to get the business to the place it needed to be in the time we had.
I want to express gratitude to all those who believed in, nurtured and supported our small company. It means more than you will ever know. I want to thank our incredible farmers, makers and vendors who pour their hearts into doing what they love, and who helped make all of us happier and healthier through the amazing food they shared with us.
I am deeply appreciative for all the amazing people who worked at and were the backbone of Mike’s. You loved this company the way I did. And it showed. In every smile, every kind word, every sticker given to a child.
Note: 20% off this weekend.
