Latest Greenwich Police Blotter: Rise in Vehicle Break-Ins and DWIs

Data from the newly launched—though notoriously difficult to navigate—Greenwich Crime Data Portal offers fresh insight into local crime trends for May 2026. While the town saw a welcome reprieve with zero residential burglaries reported, the news wasn’t all positive: both car break-ins and DWIs hit recent monthly highs.

In total, Greenwich Police responded to 2,971 calls for service in May, with a notable volume of those responses driven by noise and leaf blower complaints.

Larceny from Motor Vehicles (Car Break-ins). The 9 reported vehicle break-ins represent a recent monthly peak. These incidents were scattered across the following locations: Brookside Park, East Putnam Avenue, Grossett Road, Manor Road, Milbank Avenue, Orchard Street, Patterson Avenue, Sound Beach Avenue, Strickland Road.

Motor Vehicle Thefts. On a brighter note, vehicle thefts were lower than average for the month. Only 5 thefts were reported, heavily concentrated around the downtown commercial area:: East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich Avenue (3), and Hamilton Avenue.

DWI. Driving Under the Influence arrests spiked to a recent monthly high of 14. The infractions occurred on several major thoroughfares and some residential roads:: Bruce Park Av, Cove Rd, Delavan Av (2), I-95 North, Maher Av, Maple Av, Mead Av, Pemberwick Rd, Putnam Av (2), Ritch Av, Sherman Av, and Sound Beach Av.
