King Trump is Not on the Ballot—but King Ned Is

A "No Kings" rally took place in front of the Havemeyer Building in Greenwich on Saturday, October 17. The group was made up largely of local Democratic officials and party regulars in what was effectively a Get-Out-the-Vote operation for the Democratic slate. Demonstrators held signs reading "NO KINGS" with a picture of President Donald Trump crossed out in the center.

A local radio host raised the obvious question: Do they realize Donald Trump is not on the ballot?

Focusing on national politics is a convenient distraction from the real issues facing Connecticut and Greenwich—issues caused by Connecticut's own royal establishment. The Democratic Party rules Connecticut with an iron fist, holding a complete trifecta with seven years under Governor Ned Lamont alongside commanding supermajorities in both the State Senate and House of Representatives.

Under continuous Democratic majority control in Hartford since 1987, Connecticut has become one of the most expensive and business-unfriendly states in the country. Residents face skyrocketing utility bills, heavy tax burdens, and state affordable housing mandates that override local decision-making in small towns.

As moving vans continue to head out of state for more affordable destinations like Florida and Texas—where residents are seeking jobs and a lower cost of living—Connecticut’s economic performance continues to lag behind other state competitors. You can't blame Donald Trump for that.

Early voting starts on Monday, Oct 19 at Town Hall in Greenwich. This week the hours run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sample ballots for each of Greenwich's districts can be reviewed here.

Between the Lines: Donald Trump isn't running in this election, but Connecticut’s ruling establishment is. No Kings.
