The judge in the case of the Town of Greenwich/Fred Camillo vs the Greenwich Board of Ed (BOE) last week denied the BOE motion to dismiss. As it stands this Greenwich vs Greenwich lawsuit will continue at a cost to taxpayers so far of $200,000.
To recap, the lawsuit is about the Democrat members of the School Board (Karen Hirsh, Kathleen Stowe, Sophie Koven, Laura Kostin), appointing a new member (Jennifer Behette) to an open Republican seat. According to the lawsuit, these BOE actions were done in an emergency meeting called without proper advertising intended to front run the Town's right to make its own appointment (Paul Cappiali) to fill this opening.
The Greenwich Board of Ed has been embroiled in a number of conflicts with the Town including this one with the Selectman about properly filling an opening on its board and another with the Finance Board (BET) about a realistic amount of its funding requirements.
Between the Lines: Perhaps a properly elected chair of the Board of Ed could help solve these problems.
