Early voting is so complex, education forums are needed

Updated: Mar 24

The League of Women Voters (LWV) is working non-stop to educate voters about the new early voting process that was promoted by the LWV and approved by voters in a referendum in 2022. The early voting process is so complicated training session are needed for citizens. A voter education meeting is scheduled for March 19 from 7-8 pm at Town Hall.

Early Voting provides a plethora of options

For the April 2 presidential preference primary election, early voting will take place from 10:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. on March 26, 27, 28, and 30.

Dates are complicated by the Easter holiday weekend - Due to Good Friday and Easter, there will be no early voting Friday, March 29 or Sunday, March 31.

CT's presidential preference primary is earlier this year.  Connecticut’s primary was moved up from the last Tuesday of April to the first Tuesday (April 2) by lawmakers hoping to capitalize on getting more candidates to visit and spend money in the state earlier in the primary season. The impact of that move, however, has been blunted by the presence of two front-runners — presidents Biden and Trump.

Why bother? - The front runners are firmly established. Donald Trump for the Republicans and Joe Biden for the Democrats. Of note, Donald Trump will appear 3rd on the Republican ballot after Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley who are no longer running. Joe Biden will appear fourth on the ballot after Marianne Williamson, who is not longer running, Dean Phillips and Cenk Uygur. Ballot info is here.

Does anyone long for the old days of in-person voting on just one day?
