In Greenwich, We Have Parking Problems But Not Like New Canaan

In Greenwich, parking is a perennial problem, but it doesn't usually end up like this.
Just after 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, the Steve Benko Pool at Waveny Park in New Canaan became an impromptu, high-voltage water park attraction. An elderly driver, attempting to park his Tesla, instead accelerated and plowed through shrubbery, a fence, and straight into the pool.
Now, if this had happened at the Greenwich pool at Byram Park, the reaction would have been entirely different. A Tesla floating in a Greenwich pool wouldn't be viewed as an accident—it would be criticized as an ostentatious display of wealth by someone trying to claim the best lane for lap swimming. Neighbors would probably complain that he didn't have the proper OnePass.
Luckily for the driver, New Canaan lifeguards were on duty and sprang into action, shattering the passenger window to pull him out before the Tesla fully transitioned into submarine mode. The New Canaan and Stamford Fire Departments stood by with hoses, anxiously waiting to see if the lithium-ion battery would turn the community pool into a giant, bubbling jacuzzi.
Thankfully, no one was injured, and the pool was completely empty at the time.
Between the Lines: Just trying to park the car? In Greenwich, we prefer the valet.
