ICE officers arrested 247 migrants in Connecticut through mid-June this year. This is more than twice the number of arrests compared to the same period last year. In additional to having violated immigration laws, about 42% of migrants arrested have pending criminal charges.

Much of the activity took place in Hartford and the surrounding area where there were 127 arrests. Stamford was another hot spot with 19 arrests, followed by Waterbury with 14, Danbury with 13 and Bridgeport with 12.

Most of the arrests (26%) were citizens of Ecuador. Others came from Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Honduras and the Dominican Republic.

Between the Lines: This Federal crackdown on illegal immigrants may help to alleviate Connecticut's Medicare, food stamp and affordable housing crises -- without any help, only resistance, from our CT State leaders in Hartford.
