Hops Tended by Riverside Garden Club at Knapp's Tavern Evoke George Washington's Ale

What do a historic Greenwich garden, a Revolutionary War general, and a local craft brewery have in common? A whole lot of flavor and 250 years of history.
The Riverside Garden Club recently discovered that the heirloom hops growing in their historic garden at Knapp’s Tavern (famously known as Putnam Cottage) have deep roots. In fact, these very hops may have been used to brew the ale served to George Washington himself during his travels through Greenwich two and a half centuries ago.
To honor this connection, Two Roads Brewing Company has crafted a special, limited-edition beer using these historic hops—offering a literal taste of the American Revolution.
Event Details
The community is invited to Putnam Cottage, 243 East Putnam Avenue, on Sunday, June 7 from 2:00-4:00 pm (rain date June 14). Enjoy a guided tour of the herb garden along with a light meal with refreshments.
