Ryan Fazio (R) who was elected to the state Senate 36th District in 2021, said he is considering a run for governor next year. The 35-year old's work on tax and energy issues (i.e. identifying and pushing to remove the public benefit charge from electric bills) has been notable.
So far, the Republican hopefuls include Westport's First Selectwoman Jen Tooker; perennial candidate Peter Lumaj; and New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart. Also, Senator Bob Sampson of Southington has been talked about as a candidate.
It is likely that Ned Lamont (D) will run again for a third term. Fazio said that under Lamont and the majority Democrats our taxes and expenses have gone up. CT has the third highest taxes, the third highest electric rates and some of the highest out migration in the country.
To fill Fazio's senate seat could be Tina Courpas (R) currently representing Greenwich in the CT assembly or Nick Simmons (D), brother of Stamford mayor Caroline Simmons, who ran and lost to Fazio in the last election.
