Based on newly released 2026 data from Niche, Greenwich neighborhoods have officially swept the podium. Three Greenwich communities now sit in the top five of the "Best Places to Live in Connecticut," proving that demand for our corner of the state is higher than ever.
Old Greenwich took the crown at number 1 (a significant climb from its #10 spot in 2025). Riverside followed closely at number 3 (steady at the top), and Cos Cob, praised for its "relaxed vibe" and central location, landed at number 5 (moved up from #7 in 2025). Even Glenville made a strong showing, hitting number 11 for being one of the most walkable and scenic parts of town.
The report analyzes factors like public schools, crime rates, housing trends, and employment statistics. Here is how the top of the list shook out this year:
Old Greenwich (Suburban setting with a coastal, high quality of life)
West Hartford (The perennial favorite for diverse, walkable suburban living)
Riverside (A top-rated, quiet enclave within Greenwich)
Avon (Known for strong schools and a classic New England feel)
Cos Cob (The "low-key" heart of Greenwich)
Westport (A cosmopolitan coastal favorite)
Simsbury (A scenic, family-oriented Hartford suburb)
Farmington (Consistently rated as one of the safest communities in CT)
Glastonbury (Welcoming with a highly organized school system)
South Windsor (High diversity and excellent retail/commercial access)
Glenville (The walkable, scenic gem of Western Greenwich)
Newfield (A central, rising Stamford neighborhood)
Fairfield (Beach-town living with multiple shoreline access points)
Mystic (The historic coastal village continues to attract residents)
Wilton (A leader in educational focus and rural charm)
Between the Lines: Our local "brand" has never been stronger, in part, thanks to the "great migration" out of New York that has turned our neighborhoods into the most sought-after zip codes in the tri-state area.
