Greenwich Moves Forward on Second of Three Planned Dog Parks

Over 20 years after opening Greenwich’s first dog park at Grass Island, town leaders are finally moving forward with number two. At the August 27 Board of Selectmen meeting, plans were reviewed for a new off-leash area dedicated to the western side of town.
Located just outside the entrance to Byram Park, the proposed 11,000-square-foot site will be enclosed by a park wall and accommodate up to 10 dogs at once. Off-leash privileges will apply strictly within the gated zone—dogs must stay on-leash in Byram Park proper.
First Selectman Fred Camillo, an avid dog lover who helped bring the Grass Island park to life, reiterated the town's long-term plan for balanced coverage across Greenwich. "Once we can get this done, we'll focus on the eastern side of town," Camillo said.
Between the Lines: Eastern Greenwich dog lovers shouldn't hold their breath just yet—at this rate, it might take until 2046 before that one breaks ground.
