In the morning of April 4, 2026, a routine call for a gas leak in the Pemberwick Road area quickly turned into a high-stakes criminal investigation. What Greenwich Police discovered was not a mechanical failure, but a calculated attempt at a catastrophic explosion.

A Kitchen Bomb

Responding officers identified 43-year-old Jeffrey Caviola, a resident of Greenway Drive, as the individual behind the residential burglary that nearly ended in a tragedy for the Glenville community. Caviola didn't just vandalize the home, he forcibly removed the oven door and turned on the natural gas supply, allowing gas to flow unrestricted into the living space. He placed a metal toaster inside a microwave and activated the unit. A single spark could have triggered a fuel-air explosion powerful enough to level the structure and threaten the entire neighborhood.

Caviola was arrested and charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Arson, Illegal Manufacture of a Bomb, Burglary and Criminal Mischief.

Criminal History

Investigation into Caviola's recent and past activities reveals a pattern of volatile and criminal behavior:

  • April 2026 (Post Road): During the Pemberwick investigation, police officially linked Caviola to a recent commercial burglary on the Post Road. In that incident, he allegedly caused over $1,500 in damages to office fixtures.

  • April 2025 (Riversville Road): Caviola was arrested for breaking into a vacant home to steal copper piping. He was caught in the act by a realtor and charged with third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief.

  • March 2014 (Weaver Street): Following a car crash, Caviola allegedly assaulted officers—spitting and attempting to bite them—while in possession of a dangerous weapon (a switchblade).

Between the Lines: That's quite a history of preying on the good people in the Glenville/Pemberwick neighborhood. Time to take him off the streets.
