Greenwich in September: Vehicle Thefts and DWIs Persist as Car and Home Break-Ins Drop

The Greenwich Crime Data Portal offers fresh insight into local crime trends for September 2026, revealing persistently high numbers of vehicle thefts and DWIs. The good news? Residential burglaries and car break-ins are down.
In total, Greenwich Police were kept busy responding to 2,690 calls for service during the month. A standard portion of that volume continues to be driven by administrative nuisance calls, including 261 false burglar alarms.
Motor Vehicle Thefts: Six vehicles were stolen in September—a slight uptick from last month. Stolen vehicles were reported on Copper Beech Road, Echo Lane, Horseneck Lane, Jofran Lane, Putnam Avenue, and Windy Knolls.
Driving While Intoxicated (DWI): Impaired driving arrests remained elevated with 11 incidents reported, most occurring on the western side of town. Officers made arrests on Byram Shore Road, Delavan Avenue, Fairfield Road, I-95 North (2), Mill Street, Putnam Avenue, and Ritch Avenue (4).
Larceny from Motor Vehicles: Car break-ins fell to 4 incidents—a welcome drop from the 9 incidents reported in August. The thefts occurred on Norias Road, Rockmere Avenue (2), and Round Hill Club Road.
Residential Burglaries: Residential burglaries dropped to only 1 in September, reflecting a positive trend. The sole burglary occurred on Shorelands Court in Old Greenwich.
Between the Lines: September's numbers again serve as a reminder of two basic safety habits: always lock your car doors, and never get behind the wheel while impaired.
