Greenwich in August: It's About Car Break-Ins and DWIs
The Greenwich Crime Data Portal offers fresh insight into local crime trends for August 2026, revealing a high number of car break-ins and impaired driving. The good news? Vehicle thefts are down.
In total, Greenwich Police responded to 2,572 calls for service during the month. A good portion of that volume continues to be driven by administrative nuisance calls, including 287 false burglar alarms, 107 parking complaints, and 96 leaf blower complaints.
Larceny from Motor Vehicles: Car break-ins saw a jump to 9 incidents, one of the highest monthly levels in recent years. The thefts occurred on Booth Ct, Deer Ln, Delavan Av, Hamilton Av, Laddins Rock Rd, Locust St, Mead Av, Morningside Dr, and Stonehedge Dr.
Driving While Intoxicated (DWI): Impaired driving arrests remained elevated with 12 incidents reported. Officers made arrests on Amogerone Xwy, Bertolf Rd, Delavan Av (2), Hamilton Av, I-95 North, Palmer Hill Road (2), and Ritch Av (3).
Motor Vehicle Thefts: Only 4 vehicles were stolen in August—about one-third of the total reported in July. Stolen vehicles were reported on Overlook Dr, Parsonage Rd, Ridge Brook Rd, and Sheephill Rd.
Residential Burglaries: Residential burglaries ticked up to 2 in August, up from zero reported in July. The burglaries occurred on Gray Oaks Ln and Wynwood Rd.
Between the Lines: August numbers serve as a quick reminder of two basic safety habits: lock your car doors, and never get behind the wheel impaired.
