Just when the lazy days of summer are finally here, the Town of Greenwich has notched up our collective stress levels.
Starting Monday, June 8, a major section of North Street will shut down. As if that wasn’t enough, come July, the roads around Central Middle School will also face major closures through the end of the summer.
If you were on the fence about booking a long, out-of-town vacation, this might just make up your mind. Here is what you need to know to navigate the impending traffic mess:
North Street Bridge Replacement (over West Brothers Brook)
Timeline: Full road closure from Monday, June 8 through August 28.
Detour: An official, signed detour route will guide drivers around the work zone.
Local Access & Restrictions: Full access will be maintained at all times for residents and emergency vehicles to reach adjacent properties and driveways. However, there is strictly no pedestrian or bicycle access permitted across the bridge structure itself.
More Info: here.
Central Middle School Sanitary Sewer Pipes
Timeline: Early July through mid-August. Work runs Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (with potential Saturday work).
Detour: Traffic will be detoured around the campus via Orchard Street and Stanwich Road.
Local Access: Driveways to local residences and access to the Greenwich Baptist Church will be strictly maintained throughout construction.
More Info: here.
Between the Lines: Between the $4.5 million bridge overhaul and the $112 million school project, navigating north central Greenwich is about to feel like an episode of American Ninja Warrior. Nantucket, anyone?
