Greenwich flag raising - is there a limit?

For the 2026 year ahead, the Town has scheduled 26 flag raisings. That's an average of more than two per month—a schedule busy enough to suggest that every nationality, military group, and advocacy group in town is covered.
But is it enough? As the calendar fills up, the question shifts from who we are honoring to how many honors the town can logistically manage.
Nationalities. If you are Irish, Greek, Israeli, Armenian, Norwegian, Filipino, Canadian, French, Mexican, Italian, or Albanian, there is a dedicated day for your flag to fly.
Military Support. If you wish to recognize Vietnam War Veterans, WW2 D-Day, American Independence, and the founding of the U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. National Guard, or U.S. Space Force, there is a flag for you.
Advocacy Groups. If you support the Red Cross, Juneteenth (the end of slavery), Pride Month (LGBTQ+), or Breast Cancer Awareness, a flag will be raised for you.
The Tipping Point. The "missing" names always spark debate. What about the Merchant Marines? The Sons of the American Revolution? A Muslim Heritage flag? The logistical and political weight of these decisions has clearly reached a tipping point.
Between the Lines: The Selectman has asked the American Legion to take over the management of this process. Good move.
