In a blunt social media post on Sunday, February 15, the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee (DTC) issued a public warning to residents regarding local media bias. Targeting the Greenwich Sentinel and its omission of Democrat Selectwoman Rachel Khanna's name on a list of honorees, the DTC wrote here:
"Watch out Greenwich—be careful where you get our local news. You may not be getting the full picture. Selectwoman Rachel Khanna is one of 10 incredible women being honored by the YWCA with a Women Who Inspire Award. But, you wouldn't know by reading the Greenwich Sentinel. They omitted Khanna's name."
The omission occurred in an article previewing the upcoming March 4, 2026, YWCA event. While the Sentinel quickly corrected the piece to include Khanna, the digital "call-out" has sparked a secondary debate online about whether the error was an oversight or a symptom of partisan leaning. Some argue that the Sentinel has a history of omitting Democrat achievements and that the DTC is right to be aggressive. Others argue that the DTC is bullying a small local paper over an omission, especially since the correction was made quickly.
Update: In a letter to the editor here, Rachel Khanna admitted that she had requested that the Sentinel not include her in the newspaper and not republish her letter to the editor that had been submitted to other news outlets
Between the Lines: In the past, a simple call would be made to the paper to correct this error. Today, errors are immediately weaponized as poison pen social media posts to energize the base. We can behave better than this in Greenwich.
