Greenwich Crime Portal Shows Summer Surge in Stolen Cars and DWIs
Data from the Greenwich Crime Data Portal offers fresh insight into local crime trends for July 2026, revealing an unwelcome spike in vehicle thefts, break-ins, and impaired driving across town.
In total, Greenwich Police responded to 2,666 calls for service during the month. A good portion of that volume continues to be driven by administrative nuisance calls, including 302 false burglar alarms and 95 leaf blower complaints.
Motor Vehicle Thefts: 9 vehicles were stolen in July—the highest single-month total this year. Stolen vehicles were reported on Intervale Pl, Lake Dr (2), Midbrook Ln, Old Church Rd, Putnam Av, Richmond Dr, Salem St, and Tyler Ln.
Larceny from Motor Vehicles: Car break-ins saw a sharp jump to 7 incidents, up from just 1 in June. The thefts occurred on Field Point Rd, Gerry St, Glen Rd, Lockwood Rd, Morningside Dr, Nicholas Av, and Upland St.
Driving While Intoxicated (DWI): Impaired driving arrests hit a year-to-date high of 15 incidents. Officers made arrests on Delavan Av (3), I-95 North, Mill St (4), Putnam Av (2), Ritch Av (4), and Taconic Rd.
Residential Burglaries: The single bright spot in the data—zero residential burglaries were reported in July, maintaining a welcome break from the 5 to 6 home break-ins per month seen earlier this year.
