The Town of Greenwich will mark the 385th birthday of its founding in 1640 on Friday July 18. The land known as Monakewego was purchased from the Munsee Indians by Robert Feake and Daniel Patrick of Watertown Mass It was re-named after Elizabeth Feake as Elizabeth's Neck, later named Tod's Point and now Greenwich Point. The Town of Greenwich purchased the land in 1944.

A celebration will take place on Sunday July 20 at the annual Founders Day ceremony at First Congregational Church,108 Sound Beach Avenue, in Old Greenwich. The First Congregational Church is the first church that was founded in Greenwich.

The service will begin at 10 am and colonial food and drink will be served, including corn bread, Indian pudding and cider. There will also be colonial games played and people are encouraged to wear colonial costumes. All residents are welcome and do not need to be a member of the congregation.

Between the Lines: Happy 385th birthday Greenwich!
