Metro North is planning to increase fares 10%+ over the next year. The plan is to implement a 5% increase as of September 1, 2025 and another 5% on July 1, 2026. On a compounded basis that represents an increase of 10.25%.
The last fare increase was two years ago, November 2023, when fares were raised +4.5%.
That's a significant jump -- far greater than inflation.
As Jim Cameron of the CT Mirror says here, "when your ticket price jumps, don't blame the conductor. Blame your elected officials for under-funding this crucial transportation resource."
Between the Lines: Our elected politicians use precious taxpayer resources on wasteful programs (e.g. subsidies for the undocumented) instead of prioritizing the crucial transportation needs of Connecticut's working class commuters.
