George HW Bush statue with illuminated fountain proposed on Greenwich Ave

A statue of former President George HW Bush with an illuminated spillover water fountain is being proposed by Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo. The location would be at the triangular Veterans Plaza Park at the intersection of Greenwich Avenue and Arch Street, in front of Restoration Hardware and across from Starbucks.

Scott Frantz, former Greenwich CT state senator from 2009-2019, will donate the cost of the 8-foot statue, installation and lighting. The Greenwich legislature (RTM) will need to approve the donation.

Former president Bush, born in 1924, spent his first 18 years in Greenwich. He attended Greenwich Country Day School and later Yale. He was the youngest fighter pilot in World War II. He served as UN Ambassador, Vice President and ultimately 41st President. He died in 2018.

Between the Lines - The Bush family were happy about the plans, but said that, if alive, their dad would likely resist the idea, saying "I don't like broccoli and I don't like statues."
