Gas prices in CT surge 21 cents/gallon from last week to $3.74/gal locally

According to the Greenwich Time, Connecticut is feeling a price surge at the pumps this week, with average prices climbing about 21 cents per gallon, according to AAA and may inch up more as the summer driving season approaches. The average price in the state is $3.71, which is also up 29 cents per gallon from a month ago. The national average is $3.67.

Why: Part of the surge is due to the recent switch from "winter blend" gasoline, which makes it easier to start the car in cold weather, to the more pricey "summer blend" which causes less air pollution. Demand due to spring and summer travel also tends to boost gas prices.

Does CT ever get a break? Across the country, the lowest prices were found in Mississippi, with an average of $3.10, and the highest prices were found in California, at $5.43.Connecticut ranked 14th on AAA's list of states with the highest gas prices. AAA officials said the most expensive gas in the state was found in the Windham and lower Fairfield County areas, with an average price of $3.74.
