Starting this Fourth of July weekend, you can pay for gas using E-ZPass at 130 gas stations in New England and New York. This program is in its early stages with about 22 locations now active in Connecticut.

Here's how it works: Register your E-ZPass transponder with PayByCar here. Once registered, when you pull up to the pump, the gas station will detect your transponder, send a text message to your phone to confirm the pump number, charge your selected card (separate from your E-ZPass toll account) and email a receipt.

Between the Lines: Gas prices in Lower Fairfield County now average $3.181 per gallon, that's 36% below the $4.984 level reached in June 2022. In some areas we are seeing gas prices with a $2 handle. Now it's cheaper and easier to fill up.
