In his latest newsletter, First Selectmen Fred Camillo said that the Town is getting overwhelmed by Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. While a valid mechanism for discovery, he believes that FOIA may also be being used for political purposes as well as to harass government officials. Moreover, the costs to the Town, and therefore to the taxpayers, in time and labor are staggering and this is disruptive to Town employees as well because they need to put aside whatever they are working on to comply with these requests.
In an effort to let the citizenry be aware of how many of these requests are coming in and who are the people requesting, many of whom are repeat requesters, the First Selectman will soon start publishing the names and the requests as they come in.
That could be an interesting list.
