Police have arrested a fourth person Lillian Strickland, 20, Bloomfield, NJ as part of a crew of five from Newark NJ that came to Greenwich to steal unlocked high end cars with ignition devices, according to the Greenwich Time. Already charged include Darren Troupe of East Orange, NJ, Aliyah Richardson of Newark, NJ and Taliah Durham of Newark, NJ. All have previous arrest records for stolen cars.
Background. On April 20, 2022 around 9 am a woman on Alpine Drive saw a man inside her 2011 Ferrari Italia coupe. He ran off getting into a Mercedes G-Class SUV (stolen in South Salem, NY) followed by a white Dodge Durango (stolen from a NJ residence). A loaded handgun was recovered from the Mercedes. A Louis Vuitton purse with credit cards owned by a Greenwich woman was found in the Dodge along with financial documents from two other Greenwich women.
Familiar pattern. Thieves use a getaway and lookout car, as well as secondary getaway car or "trailing vehicle." They depart from Newark around midnight, drive through Westchester County into Greenwich looking for cars to steal, as well as financial documents from unlocked cars. When the stolen vehicles are recovered, most of the time, they are unoccupied and in Newark, N.J. Many of the stolen cars coming from Greenwich and other suburbs in the region are placed onto cargo ships at the Port of Newark and shipped to other places (e.g. West Africa) for sale.
