Forbes 400: Greenwich May Rule CT, But It Lags in the Big Leagues

The new Forbes 400 list is out and, unsurprisingly, Greenwich completely dominates the state of Connecticut.

Dominating the CT Leaderboard

Out of the state's top billionaires, Greenwich residents hold almost every spot:

  • Steve Cohen: $26.7B (Point72 Asset Management)

  • Ray Dalio: $18.9B (Bridgewater Associates)

  • Brad Jacobs: $13.3B (QXO / XPO Logistics)

  • Cliff Asness: $8.0B (AQR Capital)

  • Steve Mandel Jr.: $5.7B (Lone Pine Capital)

Absent From the Big Leagues

While we reign supreme within Nutmeg state borders, zoom out to the national stage and the gap becomes stark. Steve Cohen—our richest resident—comes in at No. 43 nationally, while Ray Dalio sits at No. 62. Meanwhile, the top of the Forbes 400 operates in a completely different galaxy:

  • Elon Musk: $908B (Tesla / SpaceX)

  • Jeff Bezos: $378B (Amazon)

  • Larry Page: $278B (Google)

  • Michael Dell: $263B (Dell Technologies)

  • Sergey Brin: $256B (Google)

Silicon Valley vs. Wall Street

What this list really highlights is the shifting epicenter of American wealth creation. While our local titans built massive fortunes managing investment portfolios and private equity, founder-led tech companies are scaling software to billions of users and building global infrastructure. The Forbes top 10 isn't held by asset managers anymore—it’s held by tech platform builders.

Between the Lines: While the West Coast thrives on AI tech and driverless Waymo traffic, Greenwich still offers hidden estates, winding roads, and low-key living. Let's keep it that way.
