Flag madness in Greenwich

In Greenwich flag raising ceremonies are held practically every day at Town Hall. The Town of Greenwich has a flag policy here that dictates which flags can be flown on town-owned buildings and properties.
The flag policy went into effect January 1, 2024. It specifies that the American flag, the Connecticut state flag, and the Town of Greenwich flag are authorized to be flown. Additionally, the policy allows for the display of other flags, provided they are approved by the Board of Selectmen.
The list of flags is approved annually by the Board of Selectmen. For 2025 here is the list that includes some of the following flags:
Juneteenth
Independence Day
Pride Month
Greek Independence Day
French Flag for Bastille Day
Armenian Genocide Remembrance
Albanian-American Independence Day
Norwegian National Day
Mexican Independence Day
Filipino Community
US Army Founding
......And the list goes on and on.
On June 13 the Filipino flag was raised on the flagpole at Town Hall. The next day, on June 14, Greenwich resident David Wold improperly removed the Filipino flag from the Town Hall flagpole and replaced it with a U.S. Army flag that had a proposed date of June 14..
The Greenwich police got involved to retrieve the Filipino flag from Mr. Wold's home.
It led to this public statement on June 25 from Selectman Camillo here that citizens must coordinate with the Town and may not unilaterally remove flags.
That led to a letter of apology on June 28 from Mr. Wold here.
And then a responding letter here from Selectman Camillo on June 29 to clarify that Mr. Wold did not reach out to the Town staff to arrange the flag ceremony.
Between the Lines: Much ado about flags with time spent by the Board of Selectmen in approving an annual list and arranging ceremonies, and in the case of Mr. Wold, involving the Selectman and the police. Let's stop the madness and stick with the U.S., CT and Town of Greenwich flags.
