The Town's legislative body (RTM) took up a proposal to extend the off-leash dog season at town beaches by 2 months. It now runs from Dec 1 to March 31. The proposal was to start the season 2 months earlier on Oct 1.

Significant pushback came from various Town entities including Conservation, Shellfish, Parks & Recreation and Audubon. Their concerns included disruption of migratory birds and the added environmental impact of waste. Another issue was the added cost of police and animal control enforcement.

A compromise with a start date of November 15 was raised to allow Thanksgiving family visitors with dogs to enjoy Tod's Point.

You can reach your RTM representative listed here or you can submit your opinion to all RTM members using this contact form here.

Between the Lines: Every dog has its day and, based on this discussion, it's likely to start November 15.
